Global Warming: A Comprehensive Analysis
Global warming is a hike in average temperature of the earth due to excessive green house gases in the atmosphere and depletion of ozone layer in the stratosphere. It is the vital and chronic disease of earth, where we human lives in. The relationship of human being with earth are predator since decades. We exploit natural resources of earth and in return we are harming it.
It dates back to industrial revolution , in the late 18th century, the introduction of machine into human society, to reduce human effort and increase productivity, in terms of agriculture, textile, mining and transportation. It had a profound effect on social, cultural and economic conditions. It had begun in United Kingdom and then subsequently spread throughout Western Europe, North America, Japan and to the rest of the world. Initially industries had been kicked off to produce more goods and cope with their individual territorial demands. Later on expansion of trade, emerged Commerce Revolution- which led them to opened trade route for selling their goods and to import raw material to generate finished goods and then exchanged with other countries. At that time the main source of power to run industry were flowing water, steam, internal combustion- which are the main cause of Green House gases.
The British formula of industrialization stimulated other
countries to generate their own products- and here the race of industrialization
begun throughout the globe which transpire Second Industrial Revolution- the
machine of industrial revolution in the 18th and 19th century
were simple. New scientific techniques unlocked the secrets of physics and
chemistry which unfolded the generation of electricity and the use of atomic
fission, led them to electrical industry and chemical industry. Human power was replaced by machine power. Electricity
enable industrialist to operate their machine on non-stop basis, which further
increased emission of hazardous gases into the atmosphere.
The transition from industrialism to post-industrialism- machine to
technology, the computer era, led by United States America. The era in which we
live now, headed towards urbanization and consequently over population in major
cities of the world.
Despite industrial revolution, in today’s world the main causes of global
warming are, deforestation. Plants & trees are responsible to absorb CO2,
construction of buildings, expansion of urbanization and burning of woods as a
fuel are the sources of deforestation. Increase in number of vehicles and
factories to cope up with the demands caused by over population.
The negative impacts of global warming are, glacier melting,
which makes rise in sea level, the conversion of land into sea (subduction of
continental into oceanic crust). Rise in sea level has a great threat to Persian
gulf and gulf of Mexico. Unusual thunderstorms, rainfall, cyclones, tsunamis,
hurricanes are the signs of global warming. It destroy coastal human
population, marine ecosystem, acidification, disturbance in mangroves forest. On top of that if the current rate of warming
not properly mitigated the Islands throughout the world are vulnerable to sink in
sea in coming decades.
To mitigate global warming there are several ways which an
individual can input; these are tree plantation, reduce, re-use, re-cycle all the waste. Turn off electric
devices when not in use.
The main emitters of green house gases are china and United
States America together responsible for 40% of the world’s carbon emission into
atmosphere. Recently In September 2016, leaders
of G20 gathered at Hangzhou, China ratified the Paris climate agreement, which
is considered the first ever deal in the history regarding climate change.
Paris
agreement: Key points
Paris agreement: Key points
§ To keep global temperature increase
"well below" 2C and to pursue efforts to limit it to 1.5C
§ To peak greenhouse gas emissions as soon as
possible and achieve a balance between sources and sinks of greenhouse gases in
the second half of this century
§ To review progress every five years
§ $100bn a year in climate finance for
developing countries by 2020, with a commitment to further finance in the
future
§ Once the deal comes into force, countries
that have ratified it have to wait for a minimum of three years before they
exit
It is an unprecedented step towards control on climate
change. Sustainable development and awareness are the major needs to deal with
this issue. Let the planet earth be impeccable for future generation.
